GUWAHATI: The construction of the world's tallest statue dedicated to Bir Lachit Barphukan is picking up pace, with the first dispatch from Ram Sutar's Studio in Ghaziabad to Jorhat, Assam, officially underway.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced this development on September 20 on the Twitter platform.
In a move to highlight the valorous history of the Ahom dynasty in resisting the Mughal Empire, the Assam government has commissioned the renowned sculptor, Ram Vanji Sutar, to craft an impressive 84-metre monument commemorating Ahom General Lachit Borphukan. This colossal sculpture is being created in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Taking to Twitter, the Chief Minister’s Office stated, “World's tallest statue of Bir Lachit Borphukan dispatched from Ghaziabad to Jorhat - Assam -.”
The statue is expected to be ready and inaugurated by January 2024. Additionally, a museum on Ahom history is also planned to be set up along with the statue in Hollongapar in Jorhat.
