GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma strongly condemned a statement made by Md Yunus, chief advisor of Bangladesh’s interim government, in which he referred to the seven sister states of Northeast India as landlocked and positioned Bangladesh as their gateway to ocean access.

The Chief Minister highlighted the persistent vulnerability narrative surrounding India’s strategic “Chicken’s Neck” corridor. He pointed out that historically, even internal elements within India have dangerously suggested severing this narrow passageway to physically isolate the Northeast from the rest of the country.
He stressed the urgent need to develop more robust railway and road networks both beneath and around the Chicken’s Neck corridor to strengthen connectivity.
Furthermore, he prioritized the exploration of alternative road routes that would link the Northeast directly to mainland India, effectively bypassing the Chicken’s Neck. While acknowledging the challenges such infrastructure projects might entail, he asserted that they are achievable with determination and innovation.
The Chief Minister further warned that Md Yunus’s remarks should not be dismissed as mere rhetoric. He called for a firm response to ensure that India’s sovereignty and connectivity remain uncompromised.
