GUWAHATI: The Assam State Election Commission on Wednesday, April 2, announced that the state’s Panchayat elections will be held in two phases on May 2 and May 7. The elections will be conducted across 27 districts, with the first phase covering 12 districts and the second phase covering 15.

According to a press release, the notice of election will be issued on April 3, while the last date for filing nominations is set for April 11. The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on April 12, and the final list of validly nominated candidates will be published the same day. Candidates wishing to withdraw their nominations can do so by April 17, after which the final list of contesting candidates will be announced.
Polling for the first phase has been scheduled for May 2, followed by a possible re-poll, if required, on May 4. The second phase of polling will be conducted on May 7, with a re-poll date set for May 9. The counting of votes for both phases will take place on May 11, starting from 8 AM until completion.
The first phase will include districts such as Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, and Jorhat, among others, while the second phase will cover districts like Dhubri, Goalpara, Kamrup, and Darrang. The total number of eligible voters for the election stands at 1,80,36,682, reflecting a 13.27% increase from the 2018 elections.
The notice has also stated that the commission has decided to continue the process of adding new voters as per the eligibility criteria outlined in the Panchayat Electoral Rolls.
