Class 3 Girl Student Dies At School In Guwahati

GUWAHATI: An eight-year-old student from Vidya Mandir English Medium School, Narengi in Guwahati died on October 19 2022, soon after she attended the morning assembly. The minor student was the daughter of Pulen Kalita, a resident of Geeta Nagar.

According to the Principal of Vidya Mandir English Medium School, Narengi, Guwahati as told to the media, the girl was a student of class three, and she was also the class Captain. Being a Captain she always stood at the front line for the morning assembly. Like any usual day after the assembly, all students along with her went to the classroom.

According to the Principal she was sitting on the front bench in the classroom. Suddenly, she stood up and changed her position, and collapsed. At the time she collapsed, the class teacher entered the classroom, and she immediately picked her up and took her to the sick room. In the sick room, the teachers managed to loosen her clothes and removed her shoes.

According to another teacher, her body was cold at that time. They immediately informed her parents and rushed her to the nearest hospital without delay. They took her first to the EG Hospital, which is close to the school. In the EG Hospital, as there was no Intensive Care Unit (ICU) available for children, the school authority took her to the Pratiksha Hospital. After the doctors examined the student, they declared her dead.

Speaking to G Plus, the Officer-in-Charge of the Dispur Police Station said, "The doctor declared that she was brought dead. We took her body for post-mortem."

Earlier on August 6, a 10-year-old girl student from Nichols Higher Secondary School, Guwahati reportedly died due to heat stroke after standing under the sun to attend a condolence prayer meet. This incident is being compared to the death of the eight-year-old student.

In response, the Principal of Vidya Mandir English Medium School, Narengi, clearly said, "The assembly prayer is practiced inside the building. Therefore, there is no question of doing it outside. The assembly hall has enough fans to cover the area. Moreover, it is on the ground floor, therefore the hall is always at an ambient temperature. There is a full-fledged suitable environment for the students to attend the assembly. All the authorities are deeply saddened by her death, and we were present there in the hospital to help her out in every possible way. Now we are also waiting for the post-mortem report to arrive. We all want to know what exactly happened to the child."

The body of the deceased was taken to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for the post-mortem. Further details are awaited.
