GUWAHATI: Social media, at least in this instance, proved to be a blessing in disguise. A young girl’s life was saved because of its power.
In the morning today, i.e. 25th June, a Facebook user went 'live' to show a spine-chilling video wherein a teenage girl was in the process of committing suicide in broad daylight in Guwahati. The visuals caught the girl sitting on the top ledge of a multi-storey building with her legs dangling out.
The live video was caught the attention of G Plus the city police was instantly alerted.
The police, in turn, took swift action and responded to the call instantly thereby foiling the attempt made by the girl.

Personnel from the Bharalumukh police station reached the terrace of the building along with other people from the building and counselled the young girl. The soft counselling went on for about half an hour after which she abandoned her attempt. Thereafter, the police managed to pull her back to safety.
The incident happened at GK Tower on AT Road at Bharalumukh.
Speaking to G Plus, the official of Bharalumukh police station said, "The girl is a resident of Choudhary Lane in Bishnupur and her mother works as a maid in the building from where the teenager tried to commit suicide."
It has come to light that the girl, who is around 19 years of age, had had an affair with the security guard of the building who originally hails from Nepal.
However, as per mutual understanding, their marriage was called off.
