GUWAHATI: The District Transport Office (DTO) has approved the new city bus fare in Guwahati which will be implemented with immediate effect. The directive was issued by the department on September 14. The minimum city bus fare in Guwahati has been fixed at ₹10 and the maximum at ₹30.
As per the new bus fare, up to 5km, the fare is ₹10, 5-9 km is ₹15, 9-13 km is ₹18, 13-17 km is ₹22, 17-21 km is ₹26, 21-25 km is ₹30.
After 25 km, the fare will be increased to ₹1 per km.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the minimum bus fare was fixed at ₹7 from ₹5 by the DTO.
The Transport Department, Government of Assam issued a fare hike notification for passenger-carrying vehicles in 2019, but due to unavoidable circumstances the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) Board, Kamrup Metro (M) could not avail the fare hike for discussion. Now, as the circumstances have improved post COVID-19, the RTA board discussed the matter and approved the new fare structure.
