District Administration Removes Illegal Hoardings From Across Guwahati

 

GUWAHATI: The Kamrup Metro District Administration has initiated actions against illegal hoardings/posters of various political parties that were put up across Guwahati for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

On April 3, one Reetam Singh took to X to point out the violation regarding a hoarding near the Guwahati Club area. Following that, the district administration has been removing all illegal posters and hoardings since Wednesday, which were against the ethics of the MCC issued by ECI. 

Singh wrote, "Respected @gpsinghips Sir, Today while driving back from High Court, I found these hoardings in Guwahati Club Area next to the rotary. The political advertisements put a picture of the Prime Minister without names of the printer -BJP in violation of @ECISVEEP circular. Kindly take down the same at the earliest. It is in violation of Model Code and Circular dated 25th July 2016 requiring name of Printer and Publisher. @assampolice @GuwahatiPol @DGPAssamPolice"

While speaking to GPlus, a senior official from the Kamrup District Administration said, " The hoardings have been removed already. Yesterday, 30 hoardings of such kind were removed where the name of the publisher was not printed. As a penalty, all expenses will be incurred on the party account. Moreover, the ECI have sent a notice to the concerned party. We are still removing any such illegal hoardings."

According to Section 127A in The Representation of the People Act, 1951, there are restrictions on the printing of pamphlets, posters, etc. No person shall print or publish, or cause to be printed or published any election pamphlet or poster which does not bear on its face the names and addresses of the printer and the publisher thereof.

It is to be mentioned that all the illegal hoardings have been removed from places like Basistha to Last Gate, Guwahati Club, Ganeshguri etc.
