Chandrayaan 2 Enters Lunar Orbit Successfully

GUWAHATI: Chandrayaan 2 on Tuesday morning, August 20 underwent a crucial orbit manoeuvre, the Lunar Orbit Insertion, which captured the lunar orbit and will have the spacecraft go around the moon, according to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). 

This manoeuvre was carried out using the onboard propulsion system and the spacecraft is now at 14 km x 18072 km orbit.

To go into the final orbit over the lunar poles, the spacecraft will go through more such orbit maneuvers. 

Vikram, the lander is then scheduled to separate from the Orbiter and perform complex braking maneuvers. On September 7, the lander is scheduled to soft-land on the South Pole of the moon. 

The next Lunar bound orbit maneuver is scheduled for tomorrow, August 21 between 12:30 pm and 01:30 pm.
