Centre Approves IndiaAI Mission With ₹10,371.92 Crore Budget; Assam To Receive ₹2,434 Crore

 

GUWAHATI: The Centre has given the green light to a national-level IndiaAI mission with a budget outlay of ₹10,371.92 crore. 60% of the outlay of Part A has been earmarked to the eight northeastern states and 40% on First-In-First-Out (FIFO) basis.

Out of the 60% outlay, ₹2,434 crore has been earmarked for Assam. The mission aims to establish a robust ecosystem to catalyse AI innovation across both public and private sectors.

The IndiaAI mission encompasses programmes and partnerships to democratise computing access, enhance data quality, develop indigenous AI capabilities, attract top AI talent, facilitate industry collaboration, provide start-up risk capital, ensure socially impactful AI projects, and promote ethical AI practices. The mission will be spearheaded by the 'IndiaAI' Independent Business Division (IBD) under the Digital India Corporation (DIC) and will consist of several key components:

•    IndiaAI Compute Capacity: This pillar will focus on building a high-end scalable AI computing ecosystem, comprising at least 10,000 Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), through public-private partnerships. It will also include an AI marketplace offering AI as a service and pre-trained models to AI innovators.

•    IndiaAI Innovation Centre: The Innovation Centre will lead the development and deployment of indigenous Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) and domain-specific foundational models in critical sectors.

•    IndiaAI Datasets Platform: This platform will streamline access to quality non-personal datasets for AI innovation, providing a unified data platform for seamless access to Indian start-ups and researchers.

•    IndiaAI Application Development Initiative: Focused on promoting AI applications in critical sectors, this initiative will develop, scale, and promote the adoption of impactful AI solutions sourced from central ministries, state departments, and other institutions.

•    IndiaAI FutureSkills: Aimed at increasing AI courses in undergraduate, masters-level, and Ph.D. programmes, this initiative will establish Data and AI Labs in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities to impart foundational level courses.

•    IndiaAI Startup Financing: This pillar will support deep-tech AI start-ups and provide streamlined access to funding for futuristic AI projects.

•    Safe & Trusted AI: This pillar will focus on implementing Responsible AI projects, including the development of indigenous tools, self-assessment checklists, and governance frameworks.
