GUWAHATI: Communication infrastructure in Assam is poised to get a fresh boost with the Centre approving alignment for the 75-km Barpeta Bypass to Amingaon highway.

The highway, which will pass through locations such as Amingaon, Dadara, Singimari, Hajo, Mukalmua, Rampur, Barpeta, and Howly on NH 427, is set to enhance connectivity for lakhs of people traveling between Barpeta and Guwahati.
A press release issued by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (Zone North East) confirmed the alignment approval and outlined the next steps. The release states that a recent meeting chaired by the DG (RD) & SS on January 7 approved the highway's alignment, including plans for geometric improvements and widening to two lanes with paved shoulders.
The 75.7-kilometer highway (excluding the Barpeta Bypass) will connect regions and improve regional accessibility and mobility. Tenders for the project are expected to be issued soon.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed gratitude to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for his instrumental role in fast-tracking this vital project.
Taking to X on Saturday, January 25, Sarma said, "Decks cleared for Amingaon-Barpeta Highway alignment. The alignment for the 75km Barpeta Bypass to Amingaon passing through Amingaon, Dadara, Singimari, Hajo, Mukalmua, Rampur, Barpeta, Howly on NH 427 has been approved and tenders will be issued soon. This will be an important highway link which will significantly boost connectivity for lakhs of people travelling from Barpeta to Guwahati and beyond. Gratitude to Hon'ble Union Minister Shri @nitin_gadkari ji for taking forward this matter expeditiously.”
