Case of ‘Mistaken Identity’: Guwahati Cop to Pay Rs 2 Lakh to Victim

GUWAHATI: A full bench of the Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) comprising Justice, has recommended a payment of Rs 2 lakh as compensation Ramani Kalita by Sub Inspector Satyajit Borah of Chandmari Police Station for a case of ‘mistaken identity’ arrest.

It is to be mentioned that the officer had arrested Kalita 14 years ago.

It was alleged by Kalita that he was arrested by the said police officer through a non-bailable warrant of arrest (NBWA) which did not have the complete information like age, father’s name, actual address, occupation, etc., and was remanded to 15-day custody.

The AHRC has directed authorities to deduct 20 equal instalments of Rs 10,000 from the salary of Satyajit Borah from February 2020 for violating the human rights of the complainant, Ramani Kalita.

As per information, Kalita was arrested in an attempt to murder case in 2005 by Borah, Sub-Inspector of Police of Chandmari Police Station, Guwahati.
