CAA Stir: “Offensive Posts Under Surveillance,” says Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: The Assam Police has arrested 393 people for their alleged involvement and in the recent violent incidents and posting provocative social media content during the Citizenship Amendent Act (CAA) protests.

While addressing a press conference on Monday, December 23, Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “We’re keeping all offensive and provocative posts under surveillance. We’ve already arrested 10 people.”

Sarma said a total of 244 cases have been registered so far.

“The Assam police have deleted 58 posts so far. Twenty-five posts which originated from outside Assam are yet to be traced but the investigation is going on. Among the 25 posts, three originated from the UAE”, Sarma added.

Five people were killed and over 100 people were injured in the violent incidents happened in Guwahati and other parts of Assam during the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act protests.
