GUWAHATI: The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) election has been postponed as the Assam government has asked the State Election Commission (SEC) to defer the polls in the wake of the outbreak of coronavirus.
The election commission in a statement mentioned, "The Assam State Election Commission hereby defers the remaining phases of BTC Election, 2020 after 21st March, 2020 i.e. after finalization of list of contesting candidates in each Constituency of BTC.”
Meanwhile, a new schedule will be notified for poll, re-poll (if any) and counting while giving adequate time for campaigning.
However, Model Code of Conduct (MCC) will continue to be in force for the time being and will be reviewed at the time of issue of notification of remaining phases of election.
