Sensation gripped Athgaon after miscreants open fired at a middle-aged businessman here this evening.
Identified as Tribhuban Gupta, a roadside-tobacco shop owner, was attacked by at least 4 miscreants at the dark alley Sharma Gali. According to sources, he was shot at point blank and the bullet pierced through his torso.
Police said that according to locals, who claim to witness the incident could not identify the face of the attackers, but claimed the victim might have known them. “When they approached, he did not seem to react oddly but rather like meeting someone he knew. Then shots were fired,” a police source said.
When contacted ADCP Amitav Basumatary, he did not delve into details and said, “We have already initiated investigation.”
Meanwhile, Gupta has been immediately rushed to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital in critical condition.
According to locals, Gupta owed huge amount of money to money lenders taking loan from who, he had started the business a year back.
