GUWAHATI: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, apprehended Paresh Kumar Sahu, Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Darrang, on charges of bribery on December 3.

The official was caught red-handed in his office chamber immediately after accepting an illicit payment from a complainant.
The bribe was reportedly linked to the registration of a cooperative society. Acting on a tip-off, the vigilance team laid a trap and intercepted Sahu while he was taking the bribe.
The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigations are underway.
