GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil in Delhi on Monday to review the state's progress under the Har Ghar Jal initiative. Highlighting that over 80% of rural households in Assam now have access to tap water connections, Sarma sought the Union government’s support to achieve full coverage under the scheme.

During the meeting, chief minister briefed the Union Minister on the significant strides Assam has made in realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Har Ghar Jal. He presented a roadmap for further implementation and urged the Centre to extend its assistance to ensure the initiative's complete saturation across the state.
Union Minister Patil assured the chief minister of his ministry’s full support in advancing the Jal Jeevan Mission, an official release stated. The discussions were also attended by Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita, Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, and senior officials from the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
Launched in 2019 by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Har Ghar Jal aims to provide every rural household with 55 litres of tap water per person per day on a long-term basis by 2024.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), chief minister Sarma remarked: “Assam is vigorously implementing the Hon’ble Prime Minister's vision of Har Ghar Jal, achieving over 80% of our target for tap water connections.”
