GUWAHATI: Assam cricketer Uma Chetry will be participating in the Women’s Premier League after the UP Warriorz team announced her inclusion in their squad as a replacement for the injured player Vrinda Dinesh.
The announcement in this regard was made yesterday by the UP Warriorz after cricketer Vrinda Dinesh was ruled out of the remainder of the WPL as she suffered a shoulder injury during a match against Mumbai Indians on February 28 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

“The UP Warriorz have signed wicket-keeper batter Uma Chetry as a replacement at her reserve price of INR 10 lakhs. Uma recently played for India A against England A and was also a part of the victorious India A Emerging squad that won the ACC Emerging Women’s Asia Cup 2023,” the team said in a press release on March 4.

The Assam Cricket Association congratulated her for the feat on X and said, "Assam girl Uma Chetry has been appointed as the replacement for the injured Vrinda Dinesh in the ongoing #TATAWPL2024 by UP Warriorz. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Uma Chetry on her selection and wish her the best as she joins the team."
Uma Chetry is the first female cricketer from Assam to be included in the Indian squad, which also won the gold medal at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China.
