GUWAHATI: In a new development for bird enthusiasts and wildlife lovers, the rare Blue and White Flycatcher has been spotted at the fringes of Kaziranga National Park, marking a deviation from its traditional migratory routes.

The blue-and-white flycatcher is a rare migratory songbird in Southeast Asia. It is also known as the Japanese flycatcher. Adult males have royal blue upperparts, a white belly, and a black face, throat, and breast. Adult females have a brownish upperparts and breast, with a white belly and vent. Immature males have blue wings but are brown otherwise. These birds breed in wooded areas of Japan, Korea, parts of China, and Russia. They also winter in Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Sumatra, and Borneo. They can be found in parks, gardens, and coastal woodlands during migration or wintering.
