This was confirmed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday, January 28.

Speaking to reporters, Sarma said that the polls would take place before Durga Puja. “Before September 30, we will attempt to see that the process ends,” he revealed. “We don’t want the BTC elections to coincide with the state Assembly elections.”

When pressed about the BJP's alliance with the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL), Sarma indicated that the decision would be based on discussions between UPPL leader Pramod Boro and Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia.

The chief minister also highlighted a pragmatic approach to the alliance, stating that if contesting together ensures more seats, both parties will perform jointly, and vice versa.

While the elections are scheduled for September, Sarma additionally mentioned the possibility of a slight delay by a week or ten days.
