GUWAHATI: Assam ace Badminton player, Ashmita Chaliha beat world number 1 Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara at the Badminton Asia Team Championships 2024 on February 17.
The championship is being held at Shah Alam, Malaysia from February 13 - 18.
Both Ashmita Chaliha and Anmol Kharb were partners of the star team.
Ashmita took down former world champion Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara 21-17, 21-14 to give India the lead in the tie whereas Anmol Kharb who is only 17 years old also rewrote the script, stunning Japan's Natsuki 21-14, 21-18 in the final match to seal the deal for India.
On this occasion, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma posted on X congratulating the players.
“An incredible achievement for the Indian Women's Badminton Team! Congratulations to Ashmita Chaliha and Anmol Kharb for their outstanding victories against top-ranked opponents. You have created history by reaching the finals of the #BadmintonAsiaTeamChampionships for the first time. A proud moment, indeed!” his post read.
