GUWAHATI: Bhupen Uzir, the renowned music composer of Assam passed away on January 9.
Uzir reportedly breathed his last at 10 PM yesterday at Nemcare Hospital in Guwahati. The last rites will be performed at Navagraha crematorium after paying the last respects to the mortal body at his residence today. The artist was reportedly admitted to the Nemcare Hospital on January 1 after suffering from respiratory ailments.
Bhupen Uzir was born on April 5, 1953 in Jorhat. The artist spent his childhood in Jorhat. He is survived by his wife Shanta Uzir and two daughters Pritismita Uzir Khanuja and Kirtika Uzir Sharma.
Bhupen Uzir was a music director, composer, guitarist, sound engineer, lyricist, and instrumentalist. He has composed music for more than 20 films. The duo of wife Shanta and Bhupen Uzir gave various contributions to the Assamese music industry. Bhupen Uzir played the orchestra guitar directed by music director Jeetu Tapan. With the inspiration of the famous musician Indreshwar Sharma, Uzir was able to make waves in the world of music.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “I am saddened to hear of the passing away of Bhupen Uzir, a renowned personality in the music industry of Assam. He was a musician who made a great contribution to the cultural world of Assam through his long music career. The death of Bhupen Uzir, who fascinated several generations through his music, is an irreparable loss to our cultural world. I wish him eternal peace and extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family and admirers of Mr. Uzir. Om Shanti!”

Assam Singer Zubeen Garg also took to Facebook to put out, "You are here, with me. Always. Love you Bhupen Da."
