Assamese Lawn Bowlers Shine In Asian Championships

 

GUWAHATI: Assam's Nayan Moni Saikia, Bangita Hazarika, and Biswajeet Khound showcased their talent on the international stage, securing medals at the 15th Asian Bowls Championships held in Pattaya, Thailand. 

The event, which concluded on Sunday, saw India clinch third place overall, with two gold and three bronze medals.

Arjuna awardee and Commonwealth Games 2022 champion, Nayan Moni Saikia, proved her mettle once again by bagging two medals, including a gold. She triumphed in the seamen's pairs and men's fours categories. Partnering with Bangita Hazarika, Saikia led the women's pairs team to victory, while also securing bronze in the seamen's fours alongside Manu Pal, Jaya, and Rupa Rani Tirkey.

Adding to the glory, first-timer Biswajeet Khound from Assam claimed two bronze medals in men's singles and men's triples, further solidifying India's position on the podium.

Assam's representation in the Indian team was notable, with four players, including debutant Bitupan Rabha, showcasing their skills on the international stage. Though Bittu Das and Karina Patowary from Assam were part of the four-member under-15 India team for the U-25 Asian Championships 2024, they were unable to secure medals in their maiden international appearance.
