The incident occurred early on Saturday, August 3 morning where in the forest area of Gangia Mainaopur, a forest personnel on routine patrol spotted the elephant trapped in the pit.

The elephant is believed to have fallen in the pit during the night. It was unable to climb out due to the steep and slippery banks.

Upon discovering the trapped elephant, the forest department personnel launched a rescue operation. The rescue effort, which involved several hours of coordinated work by forest personnel and local residents with the help of an excavator, was finally successful as the elephant crawled out on its knees.
