Assam: Two Sisters Gang-Raped, Five Arrested

GUWAHATI: On the eve of Diwali, two sisters were allegedly gang-raped in Assam. 


The incident occurred at Karimganj’s Neelam Bazaar area.


Both the victims had come from Tripura to visit their mother who was admitted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. 


The crime occurred when the sisters were on their way back home. 


Mayank Kumar, SP Karimganj informed G Plus that the girls had booked a car for their return journey. The driver allegedly took them to an isolated place under construction following which, they were sexually assaulted by five men.


The victims narrowly escaped in the wee hours of Saturday morning and registered a complaint in Bazaricherra police station.


The police launched an investigation and arrested five persons in connection with the same. 


"The two girls had not named anyone in the FIR as they met the accused for the first time. Based on descriptions, we launched a quick investigation, gathered proofs and arrested all five culprits," informed Mayank Kumar.
