GUWAHATI: During the recently concluded SP (Superintendent of Police) Conference in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made a series of important announcements aimed at enhancing security measures in the state where addressing the gathering of top police officials, the Chief Minister highlighted the state government's commitment to efficient resource allocation and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
One of the key highlights of CM Sarma's address was the decision to optimise security resources by withdrawing security cover from certain individuals based on thorough assessments.
Approximately 2,000 personnel, previously assigned to offer security protection to specific individuals, have been freed up as a result of this initiative.
This move comes as part of the state government's strategy to rationalise security deployment and utilise resources more effectively.
CM Sarma emphasised that the assessments leading to the withdrawal of security cover were carried out with due diligence, taking into account the prevailing threat perception and individual risk profiles.
This measure aims to ensure that security personnel can be channelled more efficiently to address critical security needs across the state.
Furthermore, the Assam Police is set to examine the feasibility of deploying Personal Security Officers (PSOs) with private citizens in exceptional cases.
This step, if implemented, would be on a cost-to-cost basis, wherein private individuals availing PSO services would bear the associated expenses.
