Assam: Three beaten up, forced to chant "Jai Shri Ram"

GUWAHATI: Four miscreants in Assam's Barpeta district thrashed three Muslim men and forced them to chant "Jai Shri Ram."

According to the police, four bike-borne miscreants came to a medical store and thrashed one of its employees, Rakibul Haque, at the Jyoti Gaon area located near the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College on July 5.

As per a report in NDTV, the miscreants also caught hold of Kurban Khan and Buran Ali, who work at a nearby tea stall, and verbally abused and thrashed them for no reason. "Later, they forced the trio to chant 'Jai Shri Ram'," said Jakir Hussain, President of the West Barpeta Traders' Association.

It may be mentioned here that on June 18, a group of Muslim men in Barpeta district of Assam were allegedly assaulted by a little-known right-wing organisation and was forced to utter slogans like "Jai Shri Ram", "Bharat Mata ki Jai" and "Pakistan Murdabad."

In the meanwhile the police have received an FIR and is currently investigating the matter. The police said, adding that they have also seized the motorcycles of the miscreants.
