GUWAHATI: The State Election Commission of Assam has officially published the Final Photo Electoral Rolls for the upcoming Panchayat Elections. These electoral rolls have been meticulously prepared by District and Sub-Divisional Authorities, drawing upon the relevant sections of the Legislative Assembly electoral rolls, in accordance with the Assam Panchayat (Constitution) Rules, 1995. The eligibility cut-off date for inclusion in these rolls was set as January 1, 2023, by the Assam State Election Commission.
The Assam State Election Commission adopted a digital approach to prepare the Panchayat Rolls this year, leveraging the Online Electoral Roll Management System (OERMS) developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). The OERMS, a web-based application software, was tailored to suit the specific requirements of the Panchayat Electoral Rolls. The adoption of digital electoral rolls brings about improvements in transparency, accessibility, and accuracy, marking the first instance of such an endeavour for Panchayat Elections in Assam.
As part of this process, the Draft Photo Electoral Roll was previously published on August 25, 2023. The Final Photo Electoral Rolls for the upcoming Panchayat elections have now been officially released for the state's forty election districts, excluding areas under the Sixth Schedule and Municipal Areas.
The voter breakdown, as per the Final Photo Electoral Rolls for the 40 election districts, is as follows:
Total Number of Zila Parishads: 420
Total Number of Anchalik Panchayats: 185
Total Number of Gram Panchayats: 2,195
Total Number of Wards: 21,936
