Assam Shines In Karate At 67th National School Games

 GUWAHATI: Assam's karate players showcased an impressive performance at the 67th National School Games 2023-24, organised by the School Games Federation of India.

The event, held at the Bharatiya Vidyamandir Auditorium in Ludhiana, Punjab, from January 5 to 11, saw Assam clinching one gold and five bronze medals in the under-19 Boys and Girls category.

In the girls' 32kg category, Tanisi Das secured the gold medal. Angkita Rajbongshi and Sweta Hazarika contributed to the medal tally with bronze medals in the 60kg and 52kg weight categories, respectively.

The boys' event witnessed Hrishikesh Kalita (82kg), Taksheel Majumdar (45kg), and Suraj Debnath (35kg) claiming three bronze medals.

Expressing joy over the achievements, All Assam Karate Association’s President Diganta Kalita and General Secretary Adarsh Choudhury extended their congratulations to the victorious players.

The tireless coaching of Jiten Das and Debojit Saikia, along with the management efforts of Jacinta Hansepi and Sarkiri Bey, played a crucial role in Assam's success at the National School Games. 

Speaking to GPlus Kamal Krishna Das, the father of Tanisi expressed, "It is a proud moment for everyone in Assam. This is the first gold especially in Karate. Her hardwork and dedication was consistent. Moreover, it is the blessings of all that resulted in this outcome."
