GUWAHATI:  Lending support, All Assam Students' Union (AASU) Adviser, Samujjal Bhattacharya, demanded that the state government should immediately give appointment letters to the 1600 selected candidates, who were to join the foreigners' tribunals as staff in various posts.

All these candidates had cleared the entrance test and were to join the tribunals but a government decision to put on hold the functioning of 200 additional tribunals till the Supreme Court decided on the validity of the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) rolls put paid to their dreams.

The selected candidates had also moved the Registrar General of Gauhati High Court with a plea to intervene. The Assam government had published the advertisement for recruitment in various contractual posts. Many appeared for the examination conducted by the State Level Police Recruitment Board (SLPRB), Assam. The result was declared on September 18, 2019. But till date, the government has not given them appointment.

Many candidates have alleged that the construction and infrastructure of the new tribunals have been completed and yet after six months of publication of the result, they are not getting recruited. The successful candidates, who were recruited last year, are also going through similar uncertainties.
