GUWAHATI: In a significant move aimed at promoting inclusivity and empowering marginalised communities, the Assam State Cabinet, led by Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, has announced a substantial increase in the reservation quota for Other Backward Class (OBC) communities in higher education institutions across the state.
Under the new directive, the reservation quota for OBC communities in state universities and colleges will be raised from the existing 15% to a commendable 27%.
Furthermore, the Cabinet has decided to provide specific reservations within the expanded 27% quota for six distinct communities, namely Tai Ahom, Chutia, Moran Matak, Koch Rajbangshi, and Tea Tribes.
This move is expected to address historical imbalances and provide equitable opportunities for students belonging to these communities.

This decision came as a part of a cabinet meeting held by the state.
