GUWAHATI: The "Assam Rang Utsav," organised by the Assam Cultural Affairs Department at Machkhowa Pragjyoti ITA was inaugurated on December 12 by Assam Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Borah.
The festival aims to celebrate Assam's ancient cultural traditions through various activities, including folk dances, plays, songs, and more.
The festival, running from December 12 to December 14, features a diverse range of events. During the opening ceremony, minister Borah expressed his enjoyment of the play titled “The Old Man and the Sea,” based on the novella by Nobel laureate Ernest Hemingway, published in 1952.
The festival encompasses a theatre evening dedicated to the memory of dramatist Hemendra Barthakur, Mahendra Barthakur, and Arun Sarma Memorial Natya Sandhya. Each day will include performances of Kamarupia Dhuliya, Ojapali, and Putala Nach under the banner of “Ranga Katha.”
The minister emphasised the significance of advancing drama by showcasing plays from amateur theatre groups and organising traditional performances like Ojapali, Kamarupia Dhuliya, and Putala Nach. These cultural elements, deeply rooted in Assam's heritage, play a crucial role in safeguarding and promoting the timeless cultural legacy of the region.
