GUWAHATI: January 5 marks the second day of the three-day ‘non-cooperation’ protest in Guwahati staged by Assam’s primary teachers. The protest is against the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government’s “betrayal towards the teacher’s community.”

Ratul Chandra Goswami, Assam State Primary Teachers’ Association’s (ASPTA) general secretary alleged that the state government has done nothing in the past three years to solve the problem of primary school teachers in the state. Goswami also said that Assam’s Education Minister, Siddhartha Bhattacharya had assured them on June 19 last year that he would solve their problems within 45 days but nothing has been done yet.

The teacher’s association is demanding implementation of the 7th pay commission pay grade, continuation of the previous pension scheme and regularisation of the contractual teachers.

The first protest regarding this matter happened on January 4 and the last protest will be held on January 6 in Guwahati.
