Assam Police Seize Huge Cache of Arms, Ammunition

GUWAHATI: Huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the forest areas near the India-Bhutan border in Assam's Kokrajhar district on Sunday, August 16.


Acting on a tip-off that a major haul of explosives was being made in Kokrajhar, the Assam police launched an operation in Katlibil forest in Saraibil border outpost area and Belguri forest in Sefanguri area of the district, informed police sources.

The operation was led by Kokrakhar SP, Rakesh Roushan. The operation led to the recovery of the major consignment of arms and ammunition buried underground. 


The recoveries include one MMG, five AK-56 Rifles, Magazine with 244 rounds of ammunition, one INSAS Rifle along with magazine and 23 rounds of ammunition, three 9 mm pistol along with magazine and ammunition, Point 22 Chinese gun with magazine and ammunition, No point 36 hand grenades and one MMG chain.

However, no arrests have so far been made in connection with it. 


The police investigation is underway.

A similar recovery of arms and ammunitions was also made on August 14 in the Udalguri district of Assam by the Guwahati city police and Udalguri police.
