GUWAHATI: Bishmita Likhak, a member of Veerangana, the women commando unit of Assam police will be conferred with the prestigious ‘Virangana Savitribai Phule National Award 2019’ for her many achievements in the past few years.
Likhak will receive the award at Rajendra Bhawan in New Delhi on July 11. It will be conferred to her by Babu Jagjivan Ram Kala Sanskriti and Sahitya Akademi.
She is a resident of Narayanpur located in Lakhimpur district of Assam.
It should be noted that Assam Police’s Veerangana unit was India’s first female commando unit and it was officially started in 2012 to act against eve teasers in Guwahati city.
