Assam: Peasant Leader Akhil Gogoi Appointed President of Raijor Dal

GUWAHATI: Peasant leader and founder of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) Akhil Gogoi has been named the president of the newly floated political party in Assam, Raijor Dal. 


The jailed firebrand farmers’ leader was selected as the president of the KMSS-backed party on Friday night at its convention held at Moranhat in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district.


Speaking to G Plus, Joint Secretary of KMSS Mukut Deka confirmed the development. "Akhil Gogoi has been named the President of Raijor Dal. We shall formally announce this very soon," he said.


Akhil Gogoi has been in jail since Dec, 2019 for role in anti-CAA protests. The case registered against Gogoi was under the “Unlawful Activities Prevention Act”, section 18 and 39. Along with that, he is in jail after being booked in multiple cases, including charges of sedition & provisions of the UA(P)A.
