Assam: Nalbari Man Arrested For Predicting PM Modi & Himanta Biswa’s Death On Facebook Post

GUWAHATI: A 35-year-old man from Nalbari district in the state has been arrested for allegedly threatening Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. 

The man has been identified as Lintu Kishore Sarmah from Borbagh area in Nalbari district. 

Based on a report by The Hindu, Sarmah on September 15 took to Facebook and predicted that the state and finance minister would die during an Assembly election rally in 2021. 

A man by the name of Samej Uddin lodged an FIR at Nalbari police station on Saturday, September 21 citing Sarmah’s post as “offensive.” 

Following the FIR, Sarmah was arrested on Sunday, September 22 from his residence. Police officials mentioned that the accused claimed to a kind of astrologer who could change the future if given a job at the Nalbari Deputy Commissioner's office. 

Sarmah had also predicted a terrorist attack on PM Modi’s election rally in 2021 in the same Facebook post. He said that PM Modi would be the target but Sarma would die. 

Police authorities also informed that police would be providing counselling for the arrested.
