Assam may Register 75,000 COVID Cases in September: Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: COVID-19 shall remain a 'challenge' for Assam till November 2020, stated Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on September 10.

Sarma further added that Assam has been recording approximately 2500 cases every day. Going by this trend, Assam will see 75000 new COVID-19 cases in September alone.

It should be mentioned that it took over 5 months for Assam to record 1 lakh COVID-19 cases.

"Due to festivals like Durga Puja and Diwali in the ensuing months of October and November, the numbers are expected to increase further. If we consider an average of 3000 cases per day, our health infrastructure has to be ready to take a load of over 75,000 patients," Himanta Biswa Sarma added.

He also said that "a vaccine solution against the pathogen is very unlikely before December of this year."

Himanta Biswa Sarma was attending a Plasma Donation Programme organized by the Junior Doctors' Association at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
