Dr Divya Singh Borthakur, an eye specialist from Central Hospital NEC CIL Margherita was attacked and assaulted by Assam Bandh supporters at 3 Number Golai under Margherita Sub Division of Tinsukia District. It was a 12 hour shutdown called by the Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad, Asom on February 9th 2019.
She was attacked when she was coming back after dropping her husband Dr Biswadeep Borthakur at the Digboi Civil Health Centre.
As per the victim she was forcefully stopped by the bandh supporters and her car was pelted with stones by the protesters. “The protesters attacked me and even vandalized my car. I was hurt in my head, hands and legs,” she said.
Mahesh Bora, Officer in -Charge, Digboi Police Station said, “A case has been registered. Further investigation is going on." The doctors’ fraternity of Margherita has demanded strict punishment against the culprits involved in the attack.
