GUWAHATI: Jayanta Mallabaruah was elected as the new president of the Assam Athletics Association at the Annual General Meeting of the Assam Athletics Association at the Sarusajai Sporting Complex in Guwahati.
The event saw the transition of responsibilities from the outgoing board to the freshly elected members. Mallabaruah, who is also the MLA representing Assam's Nalbari constituency, won the presidency uncontested. While two other candidates had initially expressed their interest in the role, a unanimous agreement saw the mantle of leadership entrusted to Mallabaruah.
Jayanta Basumotary secured the position of Senior Vice President, also uncontested. The team of office-bearers also includes Ashok Kumar Bharali, Karunadhar Dutta, and Manab Deka, who were elected as Vice Presidents.
The position of General Secretary was earned by Gitartha Goswami with four votes, while Nipon Das assumed the role of Senior Joint Secretary, garnering an equal number of votes. Abdur Rahim Zibran and Samuel Daimari emerged victorious as Joint Secretaries.
Furthermore, Ritu Baran Sarmah was entrusted with the position of Treasurer. The executive members of the association include Anjan Goswami, Babul Khan, Dhrubajyoti Kalita, Nimendra Brahma, and Sudip Kumar Das.
