Assam imports 32 lakh eggs daily, govt. to setup university for veterinary & fishery sectors

GUWAHATI: The state of Assam imports 32 lakh eggs everyday from other Indian states specially Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, said Dr M K Bujarbaruah, vice chancellor (VC), Assam Agricultural University.

The state currently produce 27 lakh eggs every day, but it is not sufficient enough to meet the demand.

Talking on the sideline of a brainstorming session on livestock, poultry, dairy and fishery development in Assam organized on July 2 here in Guwahati, Bujarbaruah said, “If we can increase the production of egg here in Assam, we can help generate employment both directly and indirectly.

“We are hopeful of the Act East policy, which will open up the entire corridor and will allow us to sell our products in China.”
