Assam: IAF Rescues 13 Fishermen From Island In Flooded Brahmaputra 

 

GUWAHATI: In a rescue operation on Tuesday, July 2, the Indian Air Force (IAF) airlifted 13 fishermen stranded on a small island amidst the flooded Brahmaputra River in the Dibrugarh district of Assam. The island, identified as Hatia Ali, is a remote char area that became treacherous due to rising waters.

The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) of Assam and the IAF made a a coordinated effort to rescue the stranded survivors.

The rescue mission was executed by an IAF Mi-17 IV helicopter from the Air Force Station Mohanbari, which took off at sunrise, navigating through challenging weather conditions. The coordination between the pilot and the flight gunner was crucial for the safe and efficient rescue of the survivors.

The team, upon reaching the location, encountered difficult landing conditions but managed to execute the rescue. The IAF personnel provided emergency first aid to the fishermen immediately after the rescue.

Following their airlift, all 13 survivors underwent medical checkups and were declared medically fit.
