Assam CM Directs Flood Relief Measures In Guwahati

 

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma conducted an on-ground assessment of the flood situation on Thursday, July 4,, visiting critical areas around the Shiv Mandir sluice gate, BBC Colony, and Pandunath Devalaya sluice gate in Kamrup (M) district.

1.    Immediate drainage action at Pandu Port Road:

•    Sarma directed the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) to expedite drainage operations along Pandu Port Road. This critical area has been severely affected by accumulated floodwaters, causing significant disruptions to local residents.

2.    Construction of guard wall at Pandunath Devalaya:

•    At the Pandunath Devalaya sluice gate, Sarma instructed the Department of Water Resources to begin immediate construction of a guard wall. This infrastructure is crucial for preventing further water overflow and ensuring the safety of the surrounding community.

3.    Urgent relief measures for affected residents:

•    Sarma emphasised the need for swift relief operations to support flood-affected residents. He urged officials from both the GMDA and the Department of Water Resources to coordinate and implement rapid relief efforts to mitigate the hardships faced by the local population.

The local administration, along with relevant departments, has been tasked with executing these directives to alleviate the flooding situation and provide necessary aid to those impacted.
