Assam CM Directs Flood Relief Efforts In Virtual Meeting With DCs

 

GUWAHATI: In response to the recent devastating floods across Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma convened a critical virtual meeting with all District Commissioners (DCs) on Wednesday, July 3. The primary agenda was to expedite and enhance relief and rehabilitation measures for those impacted by the floods.

During the meeting, Sarma outlined a series of urgent actions and strategies to mitigate the flood’s impact and ensure rapid assistance to the affected populations. His directives included:

•    Immediate implementation of relief measures, rescue operations, and rehabilitation efforts.
•    Establishment of shelter camps for temporary accommodation until rehabilitation is complete.
•    Alternative arrangements for pumping water at sluice gates and drainage systems, and repair of broken bridges.
•    Deployment of geo bags to prevent water from re-entering rural areas.
•    Provision of storage water and essential supplies.
•    Comprehensive survey of flood damage for timely intervention.
•    Adequate supply of sanitary napkins, clean drinking water, and child food in relief camps.
•    Efforts to secure rehabilitation grants for flood-affected individuals by August 15.
•    Timely preparation and submission of detailed reports by DCs.
•    Uninterrupted flood relief supplies, with direct communication with the Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary of the Revenue Department for advance capital if necessary.
