Assam government on Friday released Rs 149 crore for distribution of free school uniforms to 37 lakh students studying in Lower Primary and Upper Primary Schools in the state.
The free distribution of school uniforms which was stalled in 2014-15 fiscal, has resumed in the current financial year after the ministry of human resource development has agreed to provide the fund after much persuasion by the incumbent state government.
Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that an amount of Rs 400 would be incurred per uniform and the scheme would continue in coming years too.
