Semiconductor Horizon Workshop Held In IIT Guwahati

 

GUWAHATI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati hosted the Semiconductor Horizons Workshop on May 1, aimed at delving into the cutting-edge advancements and future prospects in the semiconductor industry.

This workshop served as a pivotal platform for experts, scholars, and industry leaders to exchange insights and foster collaborations in this dynamic field, marking a significant stride in the technological landscape of Assam and North East India.

The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Prof. Vimal Katiyar, Dean of Research and Development at IIT Guwahati, setting a tone of anticipation for an engaging and insightful day ahead.

Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director of IIT Guwahati, further enriched the gathering with his valuable perspectives on the significance of semiconductor research and its profound impact on technological innovation.

A highlight of the workshop was the special guest address delivered by Dr. Lakshmanan S., IAS, Secretary to the Government of Assam, Industries & Commerce, Mines & Minerals Department.

Dr. Lakshmanan also talked about the importance of fostering a conducive environment for semiconductor industry growth, emphasizing the pivotal role of academia-industry collaboration in driving economic development in the region.

The keynote address by Dr. Charan Gurumurthy, Chief Executive of TATA Semiconductor Assembly & Test (TSAT), provided deep insights into the latest trends and challenges in semiconductor manufacturing.

Dr. Gurumurthy's address outlined strategic initiatives undertaken by TSAT to remain at the forefront of technological innovation, setting a benchmark for the industry.

The workshop also witnessed the announcement of two significant collaborations, signalling a new chapter in scientific research and development.

Firstly, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between IIT Guwahati, IIT Ropar, and Starburst, the Global Aerospace & Defence Innovation Catalyst.

This strategic collaboration aims to accelerate India's space industry, fostering innovation and collaboration in aerospace and defence technologies, aligning with the India-France Strategic Partnership and increased U.S.-India cooperation.

Secondly, another MOU was inked between IIT Guwahati, IIT Ropar, and the Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI), focusing on semiconductor skill development and fostering innovation in the electronics sector.

This collaboration focusses on the commitment of academia and industry to bridge the skill gap and nurture talent in emerging technologies, thereby boosting India's technological prowess.

The Semiconductor Horizons Workshop served as a testament to the collective resolve of academia, industry, and government to propel India towards technological excellence and global leadership in semiconductor innovation.

With these collaborations and initiatives, Assam and North East India are poised to emerge as significant contributors to the semiconductor landscape, furthering the nation's technological aspirations.
