These closures, aimed at consolidating administrative services, will involve relocating staff from the offices to other revenue circles within the same district.

The Assam Revenue Department has already issued directives to the affected offices. Among the offices set to be closed is the Sarupeta Revenue Circle in Bajali district. Similarly, the Baghbar and Sarthebari offices in Barpeta district, Dangtol and Manikpur in Bongaigaon district, and Halem in Biswanath district are slated for closure.

Additional closures include Sapekhati in Charaideo, Pathorighat and Pub Mangaldai in Darrang, Gogamukh in Dhemaji, and Agomoni and Chapar in Dhubri district.

The announcement has led to widespread apprehension, with residents concerned that they will need to travel longer distances to access services that were previously available locally. Critics have also argued that rural populations, already facing transportation challenges, could experience delays and inconvenience in resolving land and revenue-related matters.
