GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has decided to extend financial support to the widows of the state who are not covered by the Orunodoi scheme.
The crucial decision was taken during the 100th cabinet meeting held on Friday evening to increase financial support to beneficiaries of the Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme, who are not covered by the Orunodoi scheme.
The decision to increase the financial support to the widows will now ensure equitable and universal coverage to all eligible recipients in Assam.
Under this transformative initiative, the Assam Government has approved a state contribution of ₹950 per month for every beneficiary enrolled in the Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme, who currently fall outside the purview of the Orunodoi scheme.
The enhanced state contribution of ₹950 per month stands as a significant supplement to the ₹300 monthly benefit extended by the Central Government to the beneficiaries.
This combined financial aid is set to provide much-needed respite to widows in Assam, easing their financial burdens and ensuring a more dignified livelihood.
