Assam Government to develop “suitable” Policy for Transgender community

GUWAHATI: The State government will organise a seminar to take opinions from various stakeholders of society to formulate concrete and 'suitable policy' for the transgender community of the State.

Kausar Jamir Hilaly, the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Assam, who was recently entrusted by the State Social Welfare Minister Pramila Rani Brahma will look into the matter.

Brahma also directed Hilaly to go through the issue after the All Assam Transgender Association (AATA) moved her with a list of loopholes found in the draft state policy on transgender.

Moreover, the office of the Chief Minister recently issued a letter to the Chief Secretary to take action on the basis of the memorandum submitted by the AATA.
