Assam: Allegations on APSC for Setting Wrong Question Paper in Child Dev Officer Recruitment Exam

GUWAHATI: In a bizarre incident, the candidates appearing for the post of Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) and allied cadres under the Social Welfare Department held by the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) on 8th Nov 2020 have alleged that the APSC this time has set a wrong question paper.

A candidate appearing for the examination, talking to G Plus under conditions of anonymity said, “We appeared for social work subject today but as soon as we received the question paper we saw that all the questions are from sociology subject instead of social work.” The candidate further added that many social work candidates immediately reported the mistake to the authorities, but they were requested to appear for the examination and were told that the matter would be resolved later. “We were requested not to report the matter to the media,” said a candidate.

G Plus talked to the APSC chairman Pallab Bhattacharya who expressed that there were examinations for around 12 optional subjects today and social work was one of them. Only the candidates of social work had an issue with the questions set, but the issue will be resolved as soon as possible, and if required re-examination will be conducted only for social work candidates.

The APSC has also issued a notification on their official website which states, “In view of some issues raised by certain section of candidates for the optional subject ‘Social Work’ for recruitment examination for the post of Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) and allied cadres under Social Welfare Department held by the Assam Public Service Commission on 8th Nov 2020, the commission has decided to immediately review the matter and intimate the decision taken by the Commission to all concerned at the earliest.”

It may be that the candidates were not well prepared for the examination or it is also possible that a wrong question paper was set. In either of the situations, the question remains that is Assam competent to conduct competitive exams effectively? What is the future of Assam?
