Assam Floods: Death Toll Rises To 27, Over 4 Lakh People Affected 

 

GUWAHATI: The flood situation in Assam continues to remain grim as the death toll rises to 27. Over 4 lakh people including 89,300 children are currently affected by floods in Assam. 

The Disaster Reporting and Information Management System (DRIMS) of Assam has provided an extensive report on the flood situation as of Thursday, June 20. As per the Central Water Commission (CWC) bulletin issued at 8 AM, several rivers in Assam are currently flowing above the danger level; Kopili at Kampur, Katakhal at Matizuri, Barak at Badarpur Ghat, and Kushiyara at Karimganj.

The report mentions another death in Udalguri. Another person was reported missing, also in Udalguri.

A total of 22 districts have been affected by the floods. These districts are Tamulpur, Barpeta, Karimganj, Udalguri, Kamrup, Lakhimpur, Kokrajhar, Kamrup (M), Hojai, South Salmara, Cachar, Nalbari, Darrang, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Baksa, Nagaon, Sonitpur, Biswanath, Hailakandi, Bajali, and Karbi Anglong West.

Karimganj is the worst-affected district with 2,54,622 people currently reeling under floods. A total of 1,311 villages have been affected by the rising water levels.

6,424.83 hectares of crop area have been affected across the state. 183 relief camps have been opened along with 105 relief distribution centres.

A total of 14,215 people including 3,979 children are currently housed in relief camps. Over 3.5 lakh animals are also suffering from the deluge.
